General Information

A Satellite meeting of WCP2014 is any meeting pertaining to basic and/or clinical pharmacology, which is to be organised by a group (e.g. scientific community or structure) and independent of the 17th World Congress of Basic and Clinical Pharmacology (WCP2014 – main meeting) to be held from 13-18 July 2014.

Which formats?

Satellite meetings may be scientific (e.g. symposia or workshops) in nature, or it may be a special social function (e.g. anniversary or awards) or a business meeting (e.g. general assembly) of such a group associated with pharmacology.

When & where?

A satellite meeting can be held pre-conference, during-conference or post-conference. Pre- and post-conference meetings are typically held a number of days preceding or following the main congress (WCP2014), respectively. A venue is typically selected not too far from the main congress (in Cape Town), allowing timeous and affordable travel for delegates to/from the main congress. There are many suitable venues at game parks, wine lands, coastal hotels, etc. around Cape Town. Some may also prefer venues further away at larger national parks or other exotic locations.

How to organise? Risks and benefits?

Groups who wish to organise a Satellite meeting are encouraged to identify South African representatives to serve as local organising committee (LOC). All administration, organisation, finances and communication are to be handled by the LOC and ultimately remain the responsibility of the organising group. All risk, losses, surplus or profit are for the organising group only. WCP2014 does not take on any responsibilities or tasks.

How to register with WCP2014?

The Satellite meeting can, nevertheless, register with WCP2014 to be formally recognized as a Satellite meeting of WCP2014 free of charge (see registration form below). Such registration will include a link to the website of the Satellite meeting from the WCP2014 website.

Any assistance needed?

In addition, it may be possible to negotiate with the WCP2014 organisers to provide limited assistance on request (not automatic) with the identification of a venue, bookings, accommodation and promotion of the meeting amongst WCP2014 delegates, all at minimal additional cost.

Registration form

The registration form has two sections:

Section 1 is compulsory for formal recognition as a Satellite meeting of WCP2014. It pertains to registration of the meeting with WCP2014, thereby to have it form ally recognised as a Satellite meeting of WCP2014. This should be completed and submitted as soon as possible, whereafter the meeting will be linked from the WCP2014 website.

Section 2 is optional and pertains to additional assistance if necessary.
